May Day = Snow Day...at least in ND...

...we awoke to grey skies...28 degrees...and snow drifts...

...but...We've had snow before in May...

...and North Dakotans even joke that the only snow free Holiday is Independence Day...

...but yesterday before the snow started (while it was still a cold, cold rain), Scout had made a pact with one of his friends to go Frisbee Golfing on Saturday...and being Boy Scouts and prepared and all that...they decided to go anyway...

...Scout tees off at the first 'hole'...

...his friend tees off too...

...they chase their frisbees into the wind and rain...

...there's no way their feet are going to stay dry...

...it's pouring at this point and I'm afraid I can't keep the camera dry...

...so I leave them to it...and head back to the (relatively) warm and dry car...for some knitting and reading (Eat, Pray, Love - Thanks K!)...that's my Scout Socks - pulled from the WIP basket for some quick and mindless knitting...

...so the boys come back soaked and chilled...and the temperature continues to fall - it's below freezing now...but after a refreshing cup of hot cocoa and some popcorn - they want to go to the park...

...but the rain is turning to snow at this point - so it doesn't take them too long to give up on that...

...so we head to the library to warm up a little bit...and check out some awesome Space Lab and Full Moon books...

...The Full Moon book is amazing - it has wonderful photographs of the Apollo Moon Mission...at first I thought it was just pictures...but at the back of the book there's a thumbnail of each photo and a caption...really well done...

...when we got home the deck was covered with snow...

  1. Should I say "Happy Snow May Day"? To be young and not worry about being cold! At least you had time for some knitting.

  4. We have had snow in May here as well, not a regular thing thank goodness!

You need some of the lovely nettle soup I made yesterday - after a course on food from the hedgerow. It is nourishing and warming. Traditionally nettles were eaten in the spring to cleanse the system after the winter's preserved foods.

    I can feel it working......

  5. WOW! We've had snow in May also but, thus far, not this May -smile-. I'm happy to let you have it this year. I guess that May Pole was a little frigid and the dance canceled, eh?
Beautiful sock and the book is an enjoyable read. Now I'm listening to it on CD, read by the author, but withholding judgment on whether read or heard is better.

  6. Wow how fun snow in May. I love how you call sock knitting mindless. I think I would lose mine. :)

  8. We had a huge snow storm on the 29th. We were supposed to be driving up into the mountains for a dinner, but we chickened out half way up when we could see NOTHING and had to drive home with the windows open because our defroster wasn't cutting it :0

    I admire Scout's stamina :)
