...Two Ten Milers...#1...

...we set off on a gorgeous afternoon for the first of 2 ten mile hikes planned for this weekend...

...the scouts started out in high spirits with lots of horsing around and noise...

...the weather was a perfect 65 degrees and gorgeous fair weather...as we walked past sloughs...

...and ripening grain...

...and stopped to inspect some wildlife...of the insect variety...

...as the shadows lengthened we continued on our way...

...still stopping boy-fashion every once in a while to hold some critters...

...and to admire the ripening wheat...so heavy it bends the stem...

...the skies were pretty...but becoming overcast...

...as we stopped for supper at the 5 mile mark...

...still finding things to be inspected along the way...

...a freshly harvested field of wheat...

...the clouds are still gathering...

...as we make the final turn for the final mile to the campground...remember this rock...I was so surprised that they painted the name of the campground on it...

...the sun is setting as we reach camp...

...and we pause to admire it...

...tents are set up in the gathering darkness...

...and a fire is kindled...

...and marshmallows and s'mores are consumed...

...everyone is tired and in the tents by 10:00...looking forward to a quiet night...

  1. What a lovely day. Just the sort of adventure lads enjoy.

I've seen 's'mores' mentioned in various places - what are they?
