...the big mailbox move...

...we're still tackling small jobs around here...so that when we get a big chunk of time...we can tackle some of the big ones...yes...entryway and green bathroom...I'm talking to you...

...our mailbox was kinda ratty looking...it had some rusty spots...and the gold stick on letters were coming off...but it's still a sound old steel mailbox...so there was no need to replace it...

...so we brought it in...took it all apart...

...and sanded and painted it...

...then I cut out some stenciled letters...I just printed our address on some stiff cardstock...and used an exacto knife to cut out the letters...

...then I taped it to the mailbox and 'spounced' some white outdoor gloss paint on the stencil...just like I did for the Freezer Paper Stencils...except because it was hard metal we couldn't iron freezer paper on it...and peeled the paper off...the only tricky parts are making sure you only use a tiny bit of paint at a time so that it doesn't bleed under the stencil...and then taping the little inside pieces in the centers of the 'o's and 'a's and 'e's...

...meanwhile the Man and Scout dug up and moved the post to the other side of the driveway...

...this was really an easy weekend project...and we get to cross another thing off our list...

  1. I love what Amy from Tightwad Gazette says about mailboxes and the strengthening of them.

Things seem to be coming together, the house is looking lovely.

  2. I took the numbers off my house to paint it around ten years ago and never got them back on...I would pat yourself on the back and feel like you have accomplished a major task here! It really looks good. Maybe I will get our house numbers out, dust them off and hang them up!

  3. Nice updates on the mailbox. It seems ours always needs it after the winter.

  4. very nice! we got "permission" from the post office here to move all of our mailboxes (for the community) off the main road a couple of hundred feet - so we went from a mish-mash off different mailboxes to one nice run of identical mailboxes. nice now that it's off the road - no "naughty boys" with bats dares to come close and hit them anymore! love, k

  5. While it looks great, I do feel for the postman. He's probably been stopping his truck to the same pentameter for years. Maybe it's a good thing. Maybe he was ready for a change to freshen things up!!

    House is looking great!
