Super Simple One Hour Baby Hat

SIZE

3 newborn sizes S - M - L

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

12 1/2 - 13 - 13 1/2 - inches around

MATERIALS

Red Heart Baby Yarn - 3 ply

colourway - Lullaby

Recommended needle size:

1 US #10 - for an easy loose cast on
1 set US #6

GAUGE

gauge is not terribly important - 5 st = 1 in - 7 rows = 1 in

DIRECTIONS

Using size 10 needle cast on 40 - 50 - or 60 stitches - depending on how big you want the hat to be...baby's heads come in all sizes. Be sure to leave a 10 - 12 inch tail of yarn here - you'll use it later to sew the back seam.

Change to size 6 US needles for the body of the hat.

Knit in stockinette stitch (knit one row - purl one row) for 40 - 45 - 50 rows.

DO NOT cast off - cut yarn leaving a 10 - 12 inch tail and thread a tapestry needle with the tail of yarn and slip each stitch off the needle onto the thread as if you were keeping live stitches to add on later.

Then gather all the stitches tightly into a ring and take a stitch into the next stitch and make a knot.

Seam up the back using the tail from your cast-on.

When you get to the top you will have two tail ends of thread - one from the cast on and one from the cast off - take a crochet hook and chain stitch a little loop and tie it back to the top. Or add any other embellishment you want.
